HOTEL LES AMANDIERS
This excellent four-star hotel sits on a hillside overlooking the town, and has become the centre of the Tafraout climbing community – it’s well stocked bar usually has at least a handful of climbers established in it, and the ever-growing New Route Book (Livre d’Escalade) is kept closely guarded behind the hotel reception. Les Amandiers was first used as a base for climbers during the early 1990s, when the original Ameln pioneers enjoyed its colonial luxury whilst making early explorations of the range.
The hotel is clean, with safe chlorinated tap water, and a pleasant restaurant serving a mixture of simple Moroccan and International dishes. The staff are extremely friendly, and speak good French, English and German. Double, twin, and triple rooms are available, and all are en-suite with either a bath or a shower. There is an outdoor swimming pool for hotel guests, and of course the excellent bar.
For a while, the Amandiers had a reputation for being a little 'cold and characterless', but recent renovations have done a lot to bring it up to date, with more comfortable public spaces and well-equipped rooms. With a significant discounts for climbers, this hotel is now better value for money than ever before, with double rooms coming in at little over £20 per night. For that, guests can enjoy:
- Recently decorated, immaculately clean rooms with air conditioning, heating, a fridge (a great new addition that we love!) and en-suite facilities;
- The climbers' bar... OK, it's not a climbers' bar like you'd get in the Lake District, but it's the closest we're going to get in Morocco! Guidebooks, rucksacks, and scruffy climbers are a common sight, enjoying ice cold Flag beer after a scorching day on the rock! (oh, and the gin and tonic is excellent as well)
- An outdoor swimming pool, perfect for cooling off;
- Excellent, friendly service from English-speaking staff;
- Free WiFi.
Climbers can benefit from an exclusive 25% off normal prices by booking through www.climb-tafraout.com
Double rooms from as little as £20 per night, triple rooms for just £23 per night (plus tax). Family rooms and suites also available.
SPECIAL EVENTS: If you're in town during the annual Almond Festival, or over the New Year period then be sure to book in advance, as the hotel frequently gets booked up. The New Year's Eve party is particularly worth a visit, with a three-course meal, live music, and partying into the early hours...

The Amandiers is only a short walk from the shops and cafes of the town centre, but is sufficiently far away to escape from the noisy hustle and bustle of the dusty Tafraoute streets.
